A Nightmare on Elm Street is the 1987 novelization of the 1984 film of the same name, written by Jeffrey Cooper and published by St. Martins Mass Market Press.

It is based on the screenplay.

It shouldn't be confused with the book adaptation by E.L. Flood or the book adaptation by Bob Italia.

It is a part of the book The Nightmares on Elm Street Parts 1, 2, 3: The Continuing Story.

  • It is stated to take place a decade after Freddy Krueger was burned to death.
  • Freddy Krueger making his glove isn't described. He obviously did so, however.
  • It describes Tina's dream after describing her wake up. The actual order of the events is the same, however.
  • It is stated that Elm Street has at least one elm tree. It is implied that the street is named after it.
  • It is stated that Don's job as a police officer was a strain on his and Marge's marriage. This is only implied in the film.
  • It is stated that Freddy Krueger was drunk when he was burned to death. It isn't stated one way or the other in the film.
