Notes[]
- It is stated that many of Freddy Krueger's pre-death victims were younger than 12.
- The novel is set in California, which is where Springwood was initially implied to be set before it was established as being in Ohio. Freddy is also portrayed as freely moving beyond Springwood's borders, as the prologue has him kill Laurie Gibson and Ed Parker in Bakersfield, while the rest of the story is set in an unnamed Southern California town that is described as being thirty-five miles south of Springwood.
- The novel's exact date is unspecified, but the technology and pop culture references (the most recent of which is to May, a 2002 film) indicate the early 2000s.
- The factory that Freddy once worked at is said to have belonged to a company called Ralco, whose mascot was a cartoon rabbit named Raleigh.
- Freddy's domain in the Dream World is the 1980s version of Elm Street, complete with bars on the windows (placed there by Margaret Thompson) of 1428 Elm Street. His memories that Jane witnesses include Amanda Krueger praying while an infant Freddy lies nearby, a young Freddy being mocked by other boys in an orphanage or reformatory after being subjected to implied sexual abuse, an older Freddy killing a rat with a pencil while repeating the taunts of his bullies, an adult Freddy being unable to perform with a prostitute, Freddy in a grungy apartment, beating his own head in and muttering "No, no, no, no, no, no, no..." while trying to ignore the defaced pictures of children that he has placed on the walls and windows, and Freddy raping or torturing one of the three Jump Rope Children (implied to be his first victim). Freddy's other memories include the events leading up to his first death and Nancy Thompson in the bathtub in A Nightmare on Elm Street.
